Carrying on
Morning devotions
Morning Bible reading
Morning prayer
I’m keeping the
routine.
But Lord,
I’m hurting:
I’m lonely,
I’m sad,
I’m afraid.
I hear that frog croaking,
the spring peeper outside
my back window,
and I wonder how
I’ll do the hard stuff.
How will I remove
another dried-up
frog stuck in the
doorjamb, like
last year?
Last year,
when Jerry did it.
My lists seem
overwhelming.
I cross off one
task and add two.
They might as well be
newsprint wallpaper
hung in strips
all over
the dining room
and with random
colors and words.
Wallpaper I
never would’ve
chosen.
I need you!
Even though I’m
surrounded by
love and cards and
food and flowers and
offers
of help,
from the best
people ever,
my heart
aches
when I pray,
“Thy will be
done.”
